Still operational with creator tools, seasonal events, brand partnerships (e.g., IPs like Jurassic World), and ongoing development despite major layoffs (~50% staff in 2025) and a sharply lower token price/user base. It's one of the more resilient platforms.

Dedicated players were earning thousands of dollars a month playing Axie, and the platform grew quickly, to 1.8 million users logged in to the platform in August 2021. It was particularly popular in the Philippines where 40 percent of Axie players were based. The combination of existing low wages in the country and pandemic-related lockdowns was a boon to Axie, as players flocked to the game in search of economic opportunity. At last a quality Web3 crypto game is coming to PlayStation®5, Xbox® Series X|S and PC.

What appears to become the first blockchain game to launch on console, Off The Grid, has completed its first playtest. While initially announced for Xbox, the opening test was on PlayStation 5. The game is deployed to developer Gunzilla Games’ gaming subnet Gunz which is built on L1 Avalanche. Following the playtest, Avalanche posted on X claiming that over 30,000 players joined the action, generating a total of around 400,000 transactions on Gunz. Players were also incentivized by various freebies in the process.

As for the game itself, it’s a highend battle royale thirdperson  shooter – also featuring a 60 hour single player mode – in which the in-game character’s cybernetic limbs are swappable and tradable NFTs. Additionally, there will be lots of customizable weapons that can already be traded on the game’s mobile wallet, which runs using the GUN token. Worth noting however is the token is not yet live external to the app. More than four years in the making, Gunzilla has raised over $100 million for Off The Grid. A free early access version became available from Epic Games in October 2024. 

My Neighbor Alice is a multiplayer game that revolves around Alice in a virtual world which allows users to own virtual islands, collect in-game items, and socialize with others. The game also has DeFi elements as users can earn rewards by farming on their lands, performing tasks that could help out “Alice”, and other activities. These rewards come in the form of ALICE, an ERC-20 token, which can be spent on other in-game assets or converted into fiat and other  cryptocurrencies. The game’s asset-backed NFTs consist of houses, plants, animals, lands, and virtually any other item in the game, which can be bought, grown, sold, or rented to other players.

Decentraland is a decentralized virtual world where you can buy, build, and sell digital real estate, artworks, or NFTs. You can do all this by playing games and interacting with various activities in the virtual world!  

There was a lot of hype around Decentraland after its launch and $MANA has achieved a market capitalization of around $1.3 billion. Nevertheless, the game has never actually achieved more than 675 daily users. Read about this here.

The GAIA Everworld MMORPG will be built on Unreal Engine. Players can get immersed in the metaverse, you will be able to go anywhere in the GAIA world, complete in-game quests, PVP, PVE, NFT marketplace and much more!

CRYOWAR is a real-time multiplayer PVP arena NFT game developed in Unreal Engine and on the Solana network. The token used is CWAR.

BCMC is an ERC20 token. Inspired by Pokemon-Go this game allows players to continuously explore new locations on the blockchain to hunt and battle monsters.

Estfor Kingdom is a medieval fantasy idle multiplayer browser-based blockchain game on the Fantom Opera network. With 15+ individual skills for users to train and level up, over 350 unique items to collect, craft, smith and more.

Each item including the player character in Estfor Kingdom is an NFT (ERC1155) which means they have a unique ID on the blockchain, and can be transferred and sold without restrictions on secondary marketplaces.

Each action can be set to run from 1 hour to 24 hours. There can be up to 3 actions queued which can split up the 24 hours, this allows idle progression of your character. Through these actions, you will gain XP towards your character levels as well as item rewards from those activities. From chopping trees for logs to fighting monsters and collecting random loot you can choose your own path on this magical adventure. Compete with all other players to reach the top of the high scores list overall and in specific skills. 

PolyGod is built on the Polygon blockchain. It allows participants to compete in an epic PVP conquest struggle for lands and for riches.  

The game takes you on an adventure back in time 1,000 years to discover the mysterious realm of Norse mythology. It forces players in a 1v1 battle with the goal of destroying the most opposing towers with the demolition of the king’s tower resulting in an immediate win. It provides players with a diverse arsenal with which to enjoy the game building, levelling  up, NFT’s non-fungible tokens play to earn crafting, and a dual currency system using GULL and MYNT tokens is available. Users can acquire NFTs and battle each other in a two to ten minute mini PVP that’s player versus player fight game.

This is the rebranded Cornucopias ‘The Island’ which was going to be a massive Play-To-Earn, Build-To-Earn, and Learn-To-Earn blockchain based game where players could be rewarded with and/or own land, properties and other NFT based assets with real world value all by playing games in a fun and safe metaverse.

Sin City rebranded as Sinverse in February 2022 and is a grand theft auto style game that takes place in the streets of an R-rated underworld. Their Metaverse includes 15,000 plots of digital land and an in-game token SIN that you earn based on your illicit underworld activities, and there’s even a virtual casino that uses the Tezos blockchain.

VulcanVerse is an open-world massive multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) with lore written by fighting fantasy authors. Inside VulcanVerse players can truly own assets in the form of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs).  The native token for VulcanVerse, $PYR, is used as a settlement,  staking, and gaming token. 

VulcanVerse is one of the games developed by the VulcanForged game studios. The game is based on Greek mythology. You can build a house or mansion or castle. Create an awesome garden. Make a maze. Start quests for other players. Harvest materials. It will be possible to start a store inside the game and sell stuff.

The VulcanForged ecosystem is built on the Polygon blockchain and will offer at least 6 blockchain games, a DEX and an NFT marketplace. The $LAVA token can be earned by playing the games.

Bloktopia is building a 21-level Skyscraper on Polygon. Acting as the central hub of all levels of cryptocurrency experience, Bloktopia is a decentralized metaverse. Bloktopia will provide an immersive VR experience for the crypto community. This 21-level skyscraper is made in recognition of 21M Bitcoins. Bloktopia will enable the users, a.k.a the bloktopians to earn revenue through Advertising Revenue, Real Estate Ownership, Play to Earn Games, Building networks, etc. Bloktopia will leverage an advanced real-time 3D Creation Engine and create realistic visualizations. BLOK is the native token, and you’d need it to purchase or lease any in-game real-estate property. You can also use BLOK to purchase anything off of the NFT Marketplace. This utility token can help you get access to exclusive events, pre-sales, and staking. This project is creating a fully immersive, photorealistic, VR and AR integrated, metaverse that could sustain a global digital economy, support full internet scale, and be home to billions of daily users. It is perhaps the only current metaverse project actually building a full-scale metaverse platform. All other projects so far are either plug-ins that will eventually be inputted into an actual metaverse like this one, or they’re much smaller platforms that don’t have anywhere near this level of scalability.

Zero is the underlying technology of zSpace; a fully immersive and photorealistic metaverse made up of universes, galaxies, and planets. Wilder World is the first universe that will be in zSpace and launch on the Zero platform. 

The NFTs that the team are putting out are some of the highest quality, highest utility, NFTs ever created. It may be the most “Ready Player One-esque” project in existence. The space exploration game Farsite has opened its NFT crate sale to the public. Different crates with different prices give players ownership over ships, blueprints, modules, or extra credits. The sale requires a connected Metamask wallet with ETH, as prices start at 0.05  ETH and the most expensive available crate costs 0.35 ETH. 

The crate sale for Farsite has been hyped quite a lot, because players will need credits in order to be able to purchase territory on one or more planets. To buy that land you will need Credits, the name of the in-game currency. However, you can only get Credits if you destroy an NFT containing some. These so-called collateral NFTs or cNFTs are generally spaceships. So  you will need to buy a crate, get spaceship, and then destroy the spaceship to obtain Credits. You can view a trailer.

Green Rabbit is a racing game built on the Wax blockchain. Players wear special Anima Armor and compete in 3D racing events. Players race  through a grueling, obstacle course known as Ultra-Anima. Equipped in Anima-Armor, racers seek to prove their worth in this contest. Winners receive prizes which could include the game currency Shellinium, NFTs, and resources. Players stake NFTs to earn Shellinium, the official Green Rabbit  token. With that Shellinium and various NFTs, players craft Greenprints and from those Greenprints, Anima-Armor. Armor comes in six components,  Boots, Chest, Gloves, Pants and Helmet. You will need all six to complete an Anima-Armor suit. After that you can upgrade armor to obtain  potential bonuses in the Ultra-Anima races.

Treeverse is a retro 2D NFT blockchain game in the style of Runescape. It is an open-world, fantasy and sci-fi based MMORPG with an action-packed MOBA-style combat system. Slay beasts, forge mighty weapons, lure the biggest fish, form guilds, defeat dungeons and explore the deep lore. Treeverse is a browser-based metaverse that is geared to be a social media platform like Discord or Twitter, but with a more NFT-focused community. It was founded by Loopify, who is a well-known NFT creator and collector within the community.

The private Alpha launch was in August 2021.

The $ROOT tokens will be the governance tokens of Treeverse, whereas $SEED will be the tokens that you’ll be able to earn by playing the game. Both will be ERC20 tokens. 

This is a GameFi version of the game "Gensokishi Online" from Japan which was awarded the Game of the Year 2012 Gold Medal at Taiwan and has already enjoyed a community of over 8 million players. It is now introducing Defi and tradeable NFT features operating on the Polygon (MATIC) blockchain.

A feature of Gensokishi Online Metaworld is the possibility for gamers to create their own characters and material directly within the game. The team decided to tilt their metaverse toward the gamer and give them the ability to create custom characters with one-of-a-kind characteristics, skills and attributes that can be traded for various other gaming items as well as fungible assets via the OpenSea NFT marketplace.

Shrapnel claimed to be the world's first AAA shooter game built on the blockchain. The team is comprised of BAFTA and Emmy award-winning developers behind major franchises such as HALO, Call of Duty, Madden, Bioshock, Destiny, Star Wars, Hawken Skylanders, and Westworld. It is built on the blockchain gaming platform Forte.  

Alien Worlds is an NFT Metaverse where you can play with unique digital items (NFTs).

Players stake Trilium (TLM) to planets to vote in the upcoming  Planetary elections, as well as to increase the Planet’s reward pool. 

Players may select NFT game cards for their strategy  on Binance Smart Chain (BSC) and WAX, to be used for mining, fighting  and missions. 

There's a cross-chain bridge for teleporting TLM between BSC, WAX, and Ethereum.

According to DappRadar, Alien Worlds was the most played Web3 game in October to November 2022.

Ertha is a BSC-based project that has created a metaverse consisting of digital plots of land, each of which corresponds to a single NFT. However, the project also has elements of DeFi, allowing users to profit by owning land and receive governance rights from owning tokens. Ertha comes with the economic, social, and MMO elements inspired by a gaming hit called Heroes of Might and Magic. The game is strongly based on exploring and investigating the world,  progressing and leveling up, choosing specializations, increasing the strength of your company and country, and more. Ertha’s metaverse offers a world that consists of 350,000 hexagonal land plots, each of which is associated with a unique NFT. So, by purchasing the NFT, you become the sole owner of your plot of land, which lets you choose where you wish to live, learn, and earn. The project offers two types of token: Ertha Land NFTs, and ERT tokens that serve as the project’s native cryptocurrency.

Age  of Rust is a story-driven, first-person action adventure puzzle game  set in a dark sci-fi future where AI has taken over the galaxy. To succeed where others have failed before, you’ll need to fight back against mechs and those plotting against you. Explore the different environments, find clues, and solve challenging puzzles that unlock the  way forward. Survive and uncover the key to stopping the Mechs... fail and the hope of humanity will be extinguished forever.

Age of Rust runs on the Enjin Platform. In order to play Age of Rust, you'll need to download the Enjin Wallet on your mobile device. 

After being suddenly dropped from Steam, Age of Rust was slowed, but not stopped. A development update detailed several plan changes to keep the game on track for a 2022 release. 

Somnium Space is a VR application built on the Ethereum blockchain using the CUBE ERC20 token and Polygon's Matic Layer 2 network. Ultra is a blockchain-based PC game platform that aims to provide both gamers and game developers with opportunities to collaborate, earn and develop. Aurory is a play-to-earn desktop game where players are invited to explore a rich and diverse universe. These magical creatures, which can be caught or traded, will accompany you through a variety of engaging game modes in this compelling JRPG.  $AURY on the Solana blockchain is the multi-utility ecosystem token which players can earn through both PvE and PvP game modes, as well through staking. Rebel Bots - Xoil Wars is a cross platform card battle game, players will be able to play, progress and earn in a single player or multiplayer sci-fi themed game taking place in outer space. The game will require players to unite around extra-terrestrial kingdoms, build their army of fighting ro- bots and compete with other players for the valuable Xoil resource.

Marvin says, "This game is strangely appealing to me."

Infinite Fleet is a space action strategy MMORPG currently in development from Pixelmatic. The game takes place in a procedurally-generated universe where players take on a galactic threat known as The Atrox. You build and customize your fleet, claim territory, build infrastructure, and team up with other players. Aesthetically, the design of the game harkens back to 1980s mech anime such as Robotech and Voltron as you can see in the trailer.

Although the game is slated for release in Q4 of 2022, it’s still early in development.  Having done extensive Alpha testing, the team is in the middle of switching from using Unity’s Data Oriented Technology Stack (DOTS) to the GameObjects workflow, as ultimately DOTS is still in development and has no compatible networking solution. 

Created by the game development studio WolfFun, Thetan Arena is a blockchain-based multiplayer online arena game available on PC, Android, and iOS devices. Thetan Arena is also a play-to-earn game,  allowing players to get rewards simply by interacting with the platform. The NFTs used in Thetan Arena give players ownership over game characters and other items, such as skins and weapons. The game can also  be played for free without the NFT aspect, although it requires quite a lot of skill to earn a profit this way. The purchased NFT characters have a limited lifecycle of usability.  In other words, there’s a limited number of matches in which each of the NFT items can earn the in-game currency. After this number has been reached, the players are no longer awarded for playing with them and purchase a new NFT character.

The main in-game currency is the Thetan Coin (THC),  which users gather by playing game modes and participating in various other activities. Once the player earns these THC tokens, they can claim them to their Binance Smart Chain wallet.
